59 countries have made a strong statement highlighting how covid-19 may negatively impact women’s and girls’ abilities to exercise their sexual rights and reproductive rights.
The statement raises the increased risk of gender based violence, and addresses the need to ensure sexual health and reproductive health services, to avoid a rise in maternal mortality and newborn mortality, increased unmet need for contraception and STIs. It also stresses the need to ensure the continued need to protect women and girls in humanitarian settings.
